Chapter 01: Another World
It was a very nice day that day. The cerulean sky with the clouds floating freely. The sun has already risen high, but it was not too hot that day.
In that warm day, Ellis was walking outside her house. She walked to the backyard and intended to go to the flower garden which she made when she was child. She cherished that flower garden very much and it became her habit to go there when she had problem.
She walked with simple humming of joy. Even she had her own problem, but when she went there she could forget all of that to enjoy the beautiful flowers in there. When she was child, the garden was took care by the gardener. But now that she has grown up, she could do it alone.
In her flower garden, she was a bit cheered up. Looking at many flowers with various shape and color made her cheered up. She touched one of the lilies in there and smiled. Then she went to the white irises. She sat in the middle of the garden while staring at the irises. She smiled faintly and then she sighed.
“Today I finally mastered Holy Lance. I hope that... No, it is not that I want my father to praise me, but... I just want him to look at me. He even never look at me,” she said with sad face. “But father has work all day, and mother... She was gone to Shonlelle, but she will be here at night. I’m glad that mom is finally home today.”
Suddenly, she felt a hostile presence from behind. Somehow, she felt it was really bad feeling. She immediately searched where the hostile presence came from. She pointed her eyes to the little fountain near the iris garden. She raised her hand and summoned her rod with magic. It was blue transparent, like glass. She grabbed her rod tightly, and prepared to confront whatever will come.
She had some questions inside her head, like why it appeared in her house which is protected by a powerful barrier, or what kind of mage could break through the barrier, or was that some kind of test from her father. But she has to be ready to confront anything that will come.
“Here it comes”
A ball of water started to form. It was above the fountain. What appeared first is a little water ball, but it slowly became larger with the form of spiral until it completely appeared. Ellis was speechless when she saw it. It was sized ten times than her body.
“Wha-what is this??” She was confused, but still cautious.
Then her eyes moved to the thing inside the water. It was a person, a boy with blonde hair. He was wearingblue hooded shirt covered by short yellow jacket. His neck is coiled by black muffler. He was wearing a white trouser and a pair of black shoes. It was strange clothes to her.
Her family, Mira family, held a powerful position in this Kingdom, after the Royal Family. Not only her family relative to the Royal Family and have influence in magic world, but also controlling the market. As the only daughter, she will inherit his father, whether she like it or not. So she studied about the market and what popular in the people. One of it is fashion. Although she didn’t really use it, but she literally follow the flow of fashion. Not only that, she knew about the difference between clothes in two different countries.
That is why she thought that the clothes of the person inside the water ball is strange. She never saw it, which is mean he came from the place she doesn’t know.
She had a large amount of question regarding the man, but when he saw that he is fainted, she prioritized to help him first. Her intention to attack was faded. Her mind focused on the boy inside the water. He’s still alive, for now, she thought. I have to help him.
Then the ball of water started to move again. Ellis immediately be cautious and grabbed her rod tightly. She hoped that it would not do something so she could took that boy out of the water, but she was wrong. The ball of water started to become smaller in the form of spiral, like when it emerged, but faster. She was a bit panic. The ball of water started to disappear. When she went approach it, the ball of water disappeared without any traces.
“Wha... What was just happened?”
She put down her rod and tried to recollect what happened in that short moment. From when she went to her flower garden, tried to push back her distress. Then suddenly a ball of water contained a fainted person appeared in the middle of nowhere and then it disappear without any traces. Then why did the ball of water appear in here?
It did not do any harm to her, or her surroundings. She did not understand how it could pass through the barrier around her house, but she was sure of two things from her recollection. That ball of water is a high level magic, so it explained how it passed through the barrier, and the other is that it was confined that person inside. The ball of water was just accidentally passing her house. The main target is the person inside.
“The hostile presence I felt before is real, but it wasn’t toward me. It was toward that person. I have to help him.”
She raised her rod and chanted some kind of spell in a strange language. It was an old language which uses to cast magic.
“Show me the path where the magic has moved…” she said in the old language.
After she finished, her rod shone and some king of sparkling blue dust appeared above the fountain. It was spread but made a path in the air which led to outside her mansion. There are a lot of dusts above the fountain, but the traces which led to outside was just a bit and barely could be seen.
“I’ve never seen this less of Particle Traces before. Like I thought, maybe it was a high level magic which hard to be traced,” she took away her rod and inhaled her breath. “It will be alright. I will find him if I follow the traces.”
Ellis resolved her heart to help that boy. She stood up and get out of her flower garden through the back door because it was the fastest way.

Alvis slowly opened his eyes and was attacked by the sunlight so he immediately closed his eyes again. It was so bright outside, which he felt strange because the place he lived never have this bright sunlight.
Uhh… Where am I…? He tried to remember what had happened to him. I should have sleeping in the forest and sudden…ly… Uh…
He felt his stomach hurt, like was hit something. He felt that he was on a strange position. It likes floating, but his stomach touched something. It came to his mind that he was hanged on something. He could felt the wind power was quite strong so he thought that he was on a high place.
He slowly opened his eyes and looked what in front of him. The first thing he saw is something green, with somewhat mix of purple and blue. It was a forest, and it was vast. He could barely see the end of the forest. One moment he was amazed with the vast forest, but then he realized that he was on a dangerous position. He was hanged on a branch of the top of a big tree. When he realized that, he was panic.
“WHAAA— what happened here?” He immediately climbed the branch and tried to find a good position so he would not fall. “Where am I, no WHY AM I HERE?” Alvis shouted in panic.
He leaned on the tree and tried to observe around him. But except the greenery, nothing could be observed.
“I need my Vista—”
When he was trying to take something from his pocket, the branch was broken by his struggle movement before, his weight, and the thickness of the branch, which was not too thick.
He managed to slow the speed when he fell down, but not too much because he could not calculate the gravity in there, which he also found it strange. As result, he did not die, but fell and hit the ground very hard. Luckily he did not get any wound, but he felt really hurt all over the place.
“Ouch…That's really hurt—”
While holding his hipbone, he looked around. There are many plants and trees with strange shape. Some leaves in tree have color of purple and green. It also had the strange shape, like triangle or rectangle. There are some strange twirling blue plants in the bushes. He also felt that the ground was softer than in the place he lives.
“What is this place? It is really… peculiar…” he mumbled.
Alvis inserted his right hand to the pocket when suddenly there was a movement in the bushes. He was immediately being cautious and put his hand to the grip of his handgun which was hanging inside the holster that attached on the left part of his white trouser. He was ready to face what would appear.
A strange tall bird which has two a half larger than Alvis came out from the bushes. It has a crooked and hooked, a little downward beak, blue little round eyes, a long white neck, black fur on its body and long brownish orange legs. It has claws in the middle of its wings, and when it stared at Alvis, it sticks outward its snake-like tongue.
“What…is this thing?”
He did not ease. Then another one came out from the bushes. Then another one came out again until there are eight of them. Alvis did not really pay attention about the number of them because he was paying attention at the first one which came first. When he realized, he was a bit frightened. All of it stared at Alvis with hungry eyes.
“I think… I’m in the bad situation.”
Those birds were screaming with husky voice, which made Alvis took his handgun at once and pointed at one of the strange bird. But when he wanted to pull the trigger because he thought that it was the sign that it wanted to attack, those birds were fainted at once.
“What the— what happened…? I haven’t done anything yet…”
From a bit far distance, Alvis could see a girl ran approaching him. He did not know her, so he still stayed on guard. That girl has black hair and tied her hair on tuft of hair. She wore bluish white blouse with no sleeves, blue mini skirt with white leggings under it. She wore bluish white mitten, similar color with her blouse, with arm warmer covering the mitten. She was holding a blue semi-transparent rod. He thought that she was the person who made all of the animals fainted.
She ignored the fainted animals and immediately approached Alvis. She tried to talk to him with worried face, but Alvis did not understand any of her words. She was talking in the different language. Alvis was mazed because he thought that the place he lives has only one language.
“Um, err… I don’t understand what you said— oh, right!!”
Alvis took something out from the right pocket, something that he wanted to take out before he was attacked. It is a device which placed in the left ear. The shape is as big as his grip, but sharper and longer edge. It has blue color with green lines and one yellow button in the middle of the device. That girl looked maze.
Ignoring her reaction, he pushed the yellow button and then a transparent a bit sparking feather came out from one side of it. Then Alvis put it on his left ear. “Okay,” he said while looked at the astonished girl, with confidence that he would understand her now. “Say something!”
“You’re strange…” she said in astonish.
Alvis looked happy when her words could reach him.
That black haired girl thought why she could understand him so sudden. She looked at the device at his left ear and thought maybe it was the reason. “What are you doing here? Are you alright?”
“I… don’t really know what just happened. I just happen to walk in the forest to refreshing my mind for awhile when suddenly I was trapped inside water that can raised by itself, and when I opened my eyes, I was here. I was on top of this tree to be exact when the branch broke and I fell. Then those strange birds came and seemed wanted to eat me, and then you came. I think you saved me. Thanks.”
“I don’t really understand what had happened to you. Moreover, are you alright?”
“Huh?”
“You were drowned inside the water ball and you fell from the tree, right? Are you alright? Is there anything hurt?” she asked.
“I think I’m alright. It’s not hurt anymore…” he answered. “Huh? Now that you mentioned it, I was drowned, but my clothes didn’t wet at all."
“I think it because it was three days ago—”
“T-three days??” Alvis looked frightened.
“Y-yes. The water ball which brought you inside appeared in my garden three days ago. Because I thought that it was bad, I decided to search for you because I think you were in danger.”
“So you were searching me on purpose. Thanks,” he said, which made her blush a bit. Then his stomach was grumbling. “Hahaha. It seems three days fainted made me hungry. I’m sorry, but can you take me to the nearest town?”
“Sure, no problem,” she said. “It’s near Minas anyway.”
“Oh, by the way, I haven’t introduced myself. My name is Alvis Fomizeus. You can call me just Alvis,” he said while offer his hand.
She replied his hand. “My name is Mira Ellisvita. I’m usually called Ellis. Nice to meet you to, Alvis-kun.”
“Just Alvis. Nice to meet ya, Ellis.” Then his stomach started to grumble again, which made both of them laugh.

After they get out from the forest, they could see a big city just ahead. The forest could make Alvis amazed. But when he looked at the city, he became more amazed.
That city was built beside tall mountain rock. Some part of the city was adhered to it. It seemed the city was separated into some elevated place and the tallest place looked like a castle. The tall wall around the city was looked beautiful. There are some floating shining crystals above the fence posts of the wall. There is a wide and long bridge in the entrance of the city.
“Amazing,” Alvis murmured. “It’s a beautiful city.” From his vision, somehow he could see some names of whatever in front of him. If he touched one of the names, the explanation of it will pop out in his sight so he could understand the new environment. It was the power of the thing on his left ear. Then he read the city’s name. “Minas…”
“Yes, this is Minas,” Ellis said. Then she pointed to the long bridge in the entrance of the city. “If we pass that bridge, we will reach the city. Come on.”
Ellis led the way to the bridge, while Alvis is amazed by not only the city but also the scenery around it. The sky is blue and the sun was shining bright. He could see the river under the bridge was flowing from the faraway mountain to the sea. When he turned right, he could see the vast sea, and also he could see something like a ship was flying from inside the wall in the direction of the sea.
“Is that… a ship?” He murmured. He read the name of the ship. Red Wings…
“That is the famous battleship, the Red Wings,” Ellis said.
“Battleship?! That is a battleship?? I thought it’s a cruise liner…”
“Well, you can also say that,” Ellis added. “Although it’s a battleship, but after the mother ship was destroyed some years ago, it became a cruise liner which helped the explorer to explore some dungeons or old temples.”
“Wow. I’d like to see it, but it was sailing off—” then Alvis’ stomach grumbled again, “—and I can’t compromise my stomach now, hahaha…”
Alvis looked at the city wall. It was tall and painted white with slight purple. He looked at the crystals which floating above the fence post and read its name. Shield Crystal… Then he touched the name icon to read the explanation. “A crystal which uses to protect from any harm.” So it is some kind of barrier.
“Stop right there!” They were stopped by the guards in front of the gate. “Show you pass—” The guard stopped talking when he saw Ellis. “M-miss Ellis. I’m sorry, I-I don’t know it was you…”
“It’s alright. Can I and my friend come in?”
“Y-yes of course!”
That guard gave a signal to another guard which at the upper part of the wall. Then the gate was slowly opened.
The city inside the wall was very lively. There are many people in there doing their jobs, or just hanging around there. There are many things that Alvis had never seen before, so he decided to observe.
“Grocery,” “weapon shop,” “armor shop,” “inn,” cafeteria,” there are many of those… “Woody weapon shop,” “Fusei weapon shop”… One of it focused on sword, one of it focused axe, and many more. Then he looked at one of the lamp in the street and stared at the crystal in the middle of the glass. “Cyalica crystal. It can shine when it is dark around.” Hmmm, so it was used as light. Interesting.
He wanted to explore more. There were still many things he has not known, but his stomach complaint once again, too much for his embarrassment.
“Let’s go to that place,” Ellis pointed at one of the restaurant.
Alvis observed once again. He looked at the restaurant. “Moon Star restaurant.” A high class restaurant etc. etc. Then he touched the “further more” icon below the “Moon Star restaurant” icon, then he chose “menu” icon. “Savis mushroom soup, 1500 guldon”… G-guldon!!?
He looked around, and he seemed tried to search for something. “There is no Vista Wing transmission around here??” he murmured. This strange feeling, don’t tell me…
They entered the restaurant. The waitress seemed knew Ellis, from her attitude, and led them to the seat which seemed Ellis’ favorite.
“Order what you want. It’s my treat,” Ellis said.
“Then Ham— Ah, I forgot…” Alvis took the menu which was put in the table and started to search what he wanted. But even he read the entire menu, he did not know what to order. Even he could observe it, it will took too long and his stomach would not compromise that. “Then I’ll eat anything you recommended.”
“Um, then… Two Tòti soup, roasted carne de vită, and two Sisom juices,” Ellis said to the waitress.
After wrote the order, the waitress went to the kitchen.
Alvis looked at Ellis. He thought that maybe she was the same with him. She also worshipped by people around her, because somehow, some people seemed to respect her in their way. But Alvis thought about the reason Ellis helping him. Maybe it is true that Alvis was drowned, but why Ellis had to go all the long way to help him, even though he is an outsider to her.
“Ellis, can I ask something that I should ask you in the first place?”
“Yes, what is it?”
“Why do you help me? I’m no one to you, right?”
“Hmm, that’s right. But… When you were drowned, you were dying, so I can’t help but to search for you. Even looked like this, I’m a healer. I can’t let anyone die in front of my eyes.”
“Healer? You mean like a doctor?”
“Close, but different. Doctor saved the patient through surgery and another medication, but we, healer, rely on our magic.”

Alvis put a deep sigh. He recognized something strange the moment he opened his eyes. The forest in his place has only green color. The sky in his place is purpleish blue, not pure blue. There are no crystals, and the shops in his place also had different kind of shopping method. Moreover, the money currency is also different, and when he learnt about magic, he convinced.
This was not Alter Vista, the world he lives.
“Um, I don’t know what’s going on, but… It seems you lost, right?”
“It’s not just ‘seems’ again. I was teleported a place I even don’t know at all!” He said with a little higher tone. “What the hell happened to me? What is all of this? Wait! Firstly, why this happened? Hmm… I was tuning Region 43 and Duster city because the tournament will be held near time. Then I was taking rest a bit while waiting for the initialize. It should take awhile, but if I didn’t go back soon…”
“Calm down,” Ellis said. “You said that you were teleported, right? By who?”
“I don’t know. I don’t even realize being teleported to such place. There are no teleportation— Ah! Don’t tell me… I was teleported when I was losing my consciousness. Someone using the water to make me faint and the teleported me here. But with what? And for what? I didn’t recall there are any devices around the basin. “Alvis, calm down!” Ellis said again. This time with louder voice, that attracted two or three tables around her. Her face turned red.
Then she looked at Alvis who stared at her. His face like wanted to say that he demand some explanation which could help him think clearly.
“Um, I’ve been asking you this, but even you didn’t know why you were sent here. But I guess the teleportation method you’ve been wondering, is it the ball of water itself? I said it, right, that you were brought inside the water ball and appeared in my garden three days ago? I ever read about the teleportation magic using water, but it should be a high level magic.”
“Magic? There are no magic in Alter Vista— Ah!” Alvis looked freeze a moment. Then he made a shocked face while scratch his head. “I see. So that is… Ah!? That was my error. I don’t think that… Haahh…”
Alvis made a sigh again. His face was complicated, as if something bad really happened. Ellis did not know what happened. She just happened to visit her flower garden three days ago, and the water ball which appeared involved her into this. She thought that it was not just an ordinary problem of him.
Then their orders came. The scent made Alvis’ stomach grumbling again, much to his shame. Ellis and the waitress who brought the food just chuckled a bit.
“Well, I was thinking too hard, which made my stomach suffer.” Alvis laughed. Despite of his despondent face a little while ago, he could make laughing face. If Ellis didn’t follow his story attentively, she could have thought that it was just a joke.
Alvis looked at the dishes with Vista Wing vision. “Let see… Tòti soup, contained Tòti mushroom with vită broth, boiled in one hour. Sisom juice, from sisom fruit, blended with its pelt. Roasted carne de vită, vită meat which roasted on 220°C for 50 minutes. I don’t really understand, but it seems it’s edible.”
“Of course it’s edible,” Ellis protested. “This is one of my favorite restaurants which serve my favorite food. What kind of food do you usually eat?”
“I eat anything edible. Beside, whatever the food is, it will be the same when it’s digested.”
“Don’t say that!! It makes me lost my appetite,” she denied.
“Well, I won’t say no more. Let’s eat,” Alvis said.
He started with the soup. It is an unfamiliar taste for him, but it still palatable to his tongue. Then the roasted carne de vită. It was already being cut into eight pieces, so it’s four for each of them. And then, Sisom juice is a bit sour, but it still has sweet taste.
Seeing Alvis like that made Ellis chuckled. It was not that Alvis ate like haven’t eaten for a few days, in fact so, but he did not eat fast. Seeing Alvis’ expression of excitement of eating new taste is amusing to her.
“Hey, Ellis. You said that I was teleported with teleportation magic using water, in the other words, the water ball itself, right? Do you know how to use it?”
“That’s difficult,” she answered. “I only knew a bit about it. Not to mention that even in the main library at Magic Association or the Church have only a few information about teleportation magic. He also saved the data of that restaurant’s menu, so he could eat in there again without being confused with the name of the food. I’ll observe the food ingredients later. There are too many inputs if I read all of this. Hmm, first is this. He touched the yellow icon ‘mapping’ on the upper right side of his view. Then there is some kind of rolling circle icon, a sign of loading icon. Okay, then… Maybe the materials, also the crystal…
He looked at the ‘Cyalica crystal’ icon. Hmm, same crystal with the one at the street. It means this Cyalica crystal is used to lightning. Then he moved to one of the vases near the entrance. It written ‘Gebilde crystal’ and click it.A beautiful crystal which uses for ceramic sculpture decoration. Then he looked at the ‘iglanite’ icon on the wall and clicked it. Stone which can be found at some ruins at Falthas desert. The structure is coarse, but easy to carved and put decorations.
“Thank you for the food,” Ellis said, which disturbed Alvis’ observing pleasure.
“Eh, you’re done? I still wanted to observe around. But it’s alright. Let’s go see your father,” Alvis said.
After paid for the food, they went out the restaurant. When they went out, there is an icon ‘complete’ on his view. He touched it and he could see a map. The map of that city. But it seemed incomplete.
“So this city IS really big,” Alvis murmured. He clicked the icon ‘continuous mapping’. “If only I can put a proper data…”
“What are you murmuring?” she asked. She had been feeling that Alvis is really a strange person. She thought maybe it is a different in culture. Then she stared at his Vista Wing. “I’ve been wondering. What is the thing in your ear?”
“Oh, this? Hmm, well, this only exists in Alter Vista though,” he said. “It called Vista Wing. This… Hmm, how do I explain it…um, an adaptation device? Device of knowledge? Anything is fine. This device helped the user to adapt in new environment by giving the information of anything around it. It can be a person, animals, plants, even a rock. The explanation is also varied, depend of what the thing is. If the user didn’t want to observe anything, nothing will come out on view. But if they demand an explanation of something, the name of the object will come out. If you click it, you’ll get the information. You get it?”
“Not at all,” she said. “Um, in the other words, any information we want to know?”
“Only what you see from the Vista Wing. The data of the explanation also can be stored, so it can be seen again later. For example…” He looked at Ellis and saw the icon of her name. “Well, considering my job, if I have to look at it, then I must.”
“Your job?”
“Ah, forget it…” Alvis looked a bit panic, but Ellis just laughed after she made a serious face.
“Alright, I believe in you,” she smiled to him. “Can I ask something?” Without saying anything, Alvis’ face shown that he didn’t mind. “Can I try that Vista Wing? I also want to try it…”
“I’m afraid you can’t. If you use the other's Vista Wing, it'll damage your brain and turning out your nerves system. Because this is directly connect to your nerve system and senses. In the other words, you'll become a useless human who can even move your little finger.”
“T-that's scary,” she said.
“I can make you one. But I need to go back to my house in order to make it.”
“Make it? Are you some kind of technician or something like that?”

They reached some kind of big wall with beautiful decoration. Then suddenly the wall split into two and opened like a door. It was a big door. Ellis entered it, followed by Alvis. When the door closed, the floor was moved upward.
“Oh I see. This is an elevator, a big one. But the one in Duster is much bigger than this,” Alvis commented. He looked around and started to observe again. He wanted to know what kind of technology that used in there. But when he looked with his VW, he found no machinery inside the floor or the wall in their surroundings. Instead, he found some kind of energy particle below the floor.
“Ma…na…? The source of the life. Produced by the mana tree and spread through all over the world. There is no life without mana. Mana is also the center of every activity. There are some people who can control mana and turned it into magic. Controlling the mana inside their body is the key. Mana itself can’t be seen by bare eyes except the one near the mana tree,” he said while read the explanation. It can also be read ‘Aeren’ in Alter Vista. What? It has two names??
“It is really a useful thing, huh…” Ellis commented.
“Well, it’s just my curiosity raised high. Anyway, did mana really move this thing?” Alvis stomped to the floor.
“It was me who control the mana so it rises up like this. But yes, it was the mana which moves this. Without being controlled, it just a mere floor, not an elevator.”
“I see…”
The wall in front of them turned into invisible wall, so they can see the city below. It was a big city indeed. Alvis could see many kind of buildings with their unique shapes, some plazas with many people gathered and chattered, busy street, busy markets, and so it goes.
Beyond that, he could see a forest, which he suspected, the forest where he was found. It was a big forest. In front of the forest, there is the big bridge which connected it to Minas.
